Producer Erica Harrell World Premiere in China

Danny Daneau
Director

Shanghai PosterThe team here at theatticdoormovie.com would like to congratulate our producer, Erica Harrell, who will be world premiering her other feature, ACTS OF MERCY at the Shanghai International Film Festival next week. Shanghai, with it’s corresponding film market, has been described as the “Cannes of Asia” and it is truly an honor to be invited to play in the International Panorama.

ACTS OF MERCY was also directed by my future wife, Laura Lopez. We both wrote, produced, and post produced our films together while attending the University of Central Florida’s Entrepreneurial Digital Cinema, Master of Fine Arts program. Working in those tight spaces had it’s affect on us, and we are to be married this Summer in her home country, Ecaudor!

Paying homage to classic noir films and thrillers, ACTS OF MERCY unveils the story of young nurse Maggie Collins as she begins caring for the charming but forgotten residents of Moss Oak Manor nursing home. Slowly, Maggie finds herself on an ethical minefield where good intentions turn into ambition, and mercy finds its way into murder. The film stars Tony and Emmy nominated actress, Tovah Feldshuh and upcoming star of Martin Scorsese’s Boardwalk Empire, Aleksa Paladino.

Once again, congratulations Laura and Erica.

Late Night DVD Testing

Erica Harrell
Producer

Sometimes its funny what my job as a producer entails. For instance, we have stumbled upon a batch of bad burned DVDs which means that every single DVD we now have cannot just be sent out even if it plays perfectly well in our Macs. Danny discovered the bad DVDs last week after he sent me a few.
He insisted I test each and every DVD in a real DVD player before sending out the movie to festivals as a screener. For me finding the time to sit in front of a tv and make sure a DVD is playing properly is really hard to do. However, tonight after working for 13 hours, my wonderful cousin Charlie randomly showed up at my apartment with a pizza and plenty of time to kill.

Bryce and I decided this was a good opportunity to show him, and our house guest Nick, the film. Having an audience experience something that you have worked so hard on really brings back the nostalgia of production. Like Jackie Rife (our biggest local Kanab, Utah supporter and former stunt woman) said, that red dirt is in my blood and I really miss Utah right now.

Even Bryce, who is usually nonchalant about his involvement in the film loves telling people about how he climbed up on that ladder and built that windmill. His new addition to that story is … “look it made it into the poster obviously it is important”.

I am happy to report that the DVD worked perfectly fine and I will be sending it out tomorrow to a lucky sales company. :)

Happy New Year!

2008 was completely filled with editing and the completion of post production on The Attic Door, in which we were fortunate enough to work with some really wonderful people. We now look to 2009 and cannot wait to embark on the film’s final journey, it’s exhibition. We cannot begin to express how fortunate we were to have made this film and how excited we are to share it with everyone, especially the people who have been following this film for a long time through our blogs, web series, and word of mouth. Stay tuned as we hope to be debuting the official theatrical poster within the next few weeks.

I found this great picture of Danny and I taken last January at Sundance and marvel at how much has changed since then.

I can’t believe Christmas is next week! On Monday Danny and I got together to do our annual The Attic Door Christmas cards (look for yours in the mail soon). We are so thankful to have such wonderful and loyal supporters of this film and many new friends of the film as well.

While filling out the hundereds of cards it was nice to think back on the wonderful people of Kanab, our stellar production crew and our wonderful post production team. Amother year and come and gone and we are so glad that you are in our lives. Please keep us updated on what you guys are working on, who you are dating or marrying, and all these other wonderful things that maybe going on in your lives.

And of course we will update you guys on the film’s progress and what is coming up for Danny, myself and Nightlight Pictures.

Merry Christmas And have a wonderful New Year!

Article in the Future

Director Danny Daneau - Photo by Sharon WeaverOver the Thanksgiving holiday, The Central Florida Future wrote a great article about our video podcast series, BEHIND THE ATTIC DOOR. The Future is the official school newspaper for the University of Central Florida where I graduated with an MFA degree and where I met co-writer Eric Ernst, producer Erica Harrell, cinematographer Scott Uhlfelder, and production designer Alex Eastwood. Needless to say, we have a strong connection to the university and we are proud that they continue to support our efforts.

Building up Her Own Entourage

Check out this flattering blog post about our producer Erica Harrell.

It sounds like the kind of leap a sideline client being managed by Eric Murphy (a.k.a. E) in the shadows of Vincent Chase’s travails might suddenly make on an episode of the acclaimed HBO series Entourage. But in this case, the ascendant individual is Erica Harrell, a real-life production secretary on the show.
