The economy in the last few weeks has been on a wild roller coaster ride and no one is sure when it will end. Many of us are facing cutbacks and job loss. An independent filmmakers we have a lot at stake in the future films. We have our investors to think about as well as being able to provide for ourselves. Of course we are really excited and thankful to have the films that we have, but many of us are wondering what the future of indie filmaking and indie film distributing will be like.
I found this article on IndieWire today that talks a bit about film financing during these hard times. The article points out that some producers are still able to find funding through private investors who have not been too affected by the stock market crashes. However budgets are getting smaller and production is slowing down. The more dismal news in this article for films like “The Attic Door” may be that buyers are way more limited. Gone are the indie powerhouse distributors like ThinkFilm and Warner Independent. Hopefully change will be coming for filmmakers like us and many others around the world.

We worked, and worked, and worked.
The future was unwritten and I was afraid of failing, of forgetting some detail, and of being revealed as an amateur. My alarm clock became obsolete by the second day. I was consistently waking up before 5AM each morning, and I would sit outside in the pre-dawn hours and pour over the script, shooting schedule, budget, props list, and construction blueprints to make sure I had everything accounted for. No stone could be left unturned.
The Art Department was working hard on the assignments I had given them, and they deserve a lot of credit for the final product. Filmmaking is a collaboration and there is no way I could have done all of this on my own. As they worked together on gathering props and set decorations, and Josh worked in the warehouse all day, everyday, I drove to every corner of southern Utah possible, making sure that we were always three steps ahead of production.

NBC has one heck of a Thursday night line-up. I’m not kidding. You gotta love THE OFFICE and the SNL THURSDAY NIGHT LIVE. But taking the cake tonight is our very own Madison Davenport guest starring on ER. They are in their final fifteenth season and tonight’s episode is called, “Parental Guidance.” Please check her out at 10pm tonight then leave comments on how you think she did!

Hi, my name is Madison Davenport, I am 11 years old, in 6th grade and I play Caroline in the movie! It was ssssoooo fun working on the set of THE ATTIC DOOR. Everyone was so nice and I made a lot of really great friends! We filmed the movie in Utah (I still have the red dirt on my shoes to prove it). When you see the movie than you can definitely tell that all the locations we shot were gorgeous!
The movie itself is beautiful too. I got to work with Jake Johnson who played Darrel, we go to school together! I also got to work with the most awesome directer ever (not even exagerating) Danny Daneau. My whole experiance was amazing and I loved watching the movie. Oh wait I’m getting ahead of myself! My character Caroline is very motherly and is very strict yet loving at the same time. During the movie she is always hoping and knowing that her parents will come back. Now Darrel on the other hand is very childlike and playful yet he seems to want to care for his sister.
Danny is an amazing director, he lets you put a little bit of youreself into your character. I had so much fun. Thank you soo much Danny and thank you to everyone who helped put this project together!
