Welcome to the Blog
Danny Daneau
Writer-Director
Hello and welcome to the very first blog for the independent feature film, A MONSTER IN THE ATTIC. My name is Danny Daneau and I am the writer/director of the project. At the age of 24, this is my first length feature film and I am incredibly excited about the upcoming production. I, along side producer Erica Harrell and co-writer Eric Ernst, wanted to create this blog so that we might share all of the trials and tribulations associated with the world of micro-budget independent film.
Over the next several months you can come to this blog to follow the progress of the film or ask questions of the filmmakers. Premiering in only a few months will be a series of short web-based documentaries following the production of the film shooting this July.
The film is currently in preproduction which means we are securing locations, casting the two actors roles, and searching for investors. Everything seems to be coming together wonderfully.
Please check in, leave comments, and ask questions as Erica, Eric, and myself write about the many amazing things happening around this film.
Best Wishes,
Danny

Where is this movie
going to be filmed? It
looks really cool.

The film takes place during the turn of the century American West.
We are honored to be shooting in and around historic Kane County Utah. When legendary filmmaker John Ford left the soundstages of Los Angeles to begin making “Outdoor Westerns,” the first place he journeyed was Kane County with films such as “DRUMS ALONG THE MOHACK” and “STAGECOACH” in 1939.
The Kane County Office of Tourism and Film Commission has award A MONSTER IN THE ATTIC a production grant, allowing us to shoot this small film in such a grand location.

Thanks. Is this movie
going to theatres?

As an independent film, the financing is coming from private investors and not a motion picture distributor as is done for most Hollywood films. This means that once the film is edited, we will begin an extensive marketing campaign searching for producer representatives and hopefully premiering at a top tier festival, such as Sundance or Tribeca.
At this point we hope that we’ve made a strong enough picture that an independent distributor (such as Focus Features, Fox Searchlight, Think Film) would want to buy the theatrical rights and release it in a theatre near you.

From what you say
about the movie,
Fox Faith might also be
a good place to market it.
Is the casting already done?

Jennifer,
We are midway through our casting which is quiet extensive seeing that the two child actors carry the weight of the entire feature film. The caliber of talent coming out to audition is really top notch.
Fox Faith seems quiet interesting. The movie has a religious undertone expressed in the children’s belief that one day their parents will be return to save them. The note their mother and father left is very much treated as sacred.

As a screenwriter myself,
I wondered if you could let
me know how you go about getting
funding for movies etc. I have a scrip
I’m looking for investors to
get it off and running.
Could you explain how you
went about it, please?
good luck on your movie

My child read for this a few times and we loved the script. He loved the time period and the whole idea of the location. When will you announce the actors? Good luck with it, I look foward to reading your blogs throughout the filming process.

Dear Christine,
So glad to hear you liked the story. We should be announcing actors in the next three weeks via this blog so please stay tuned.

It has been the talk on the acting boards. So far the parents that have read the script seem to like it. Hopefully you will get a distributor that will market it well and we will all be able to see it in the theatre.
Good luck with your mix and match, for your sake I hope it will be your last. I’ll keep up with your site, I’ve already let some other parents know about it.

I found this blog through a google search on Fox Faith. Michael Landon’s son has directed a movie that was distibuted (not sure if that’s the right term) by Fox Faith. Congrats on your upcoming indie film. My husband and I are professional musicians based in Maine and send our full “way-to-go” to anyone trying to make it by doing what they love. You seem friendly, and I have a question that is impossible to get answered if you don’t know anyone in the film industry. What is the best way to find valid audition postings for great either independent or fully financed films???? We aren’t “in” the industry, but are interested in participating in great inspirational stories. Any tips? Again, best of luck with you film. I will bookmark this blog to follow your progress.

The first place I turn is www.mandy.com. It is great to find work for all sorts of projects broken down by both region and job type.

Hi Danny
I recently made a trip to Kanab and visited the Heritage House and took
some interesting and haunting photos of the house. This should be a great
location for your movie “A Monster in the Attic”!!

You have a great script, actors and location…should be a hit!!
